DFID Develops Climate Knowledge Centre


DFID is developing a multi-million pound 'Centre for Climate and Development' to improve access for developing countries to high-quality, timely and relevant information on climate change and development.

The Centre will deliver an integrated set of knowledge management, research and advisory services. The aim is to support policy-making and practice on adaptation and low carbon development in developing countries.

The Intelligence Squared Green Festival on Climate Change 2009 was held on 25 January 2009 at the Royal Geographical Society, London. Building on the success of six years of staging the highest quality debates and events in London, Intelligence Squared sought to raise the level of awareness of the scientific, regulatory, economic and social dimensions of climate change by bringing together the brightest thinkers on the subject from around the globe. The festival included four debates including one led by secondary school children in association with the Royal Geographical Society as well as 6 expert seminars.

US $ 515 Billion needed in Green Investments

Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, 29 January 2009 − The World Economic Forum today released the Green Investing: Towards a Clean Energy Infrastructure report.

The report outlines the scale of the investments needed to develop a clean energy infrastructure and move to towards a low-carbon economy.

Global Change in Africa

The international IMPETUS Africa Conference on "Global Change in Africa - Projections, Mitigation and Adaptation" will be held from June 2nd to 5th 2009 at the University of Cologne. 100 Most Sustainable Companies Unveiled in Davos

This week at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, a list of the "Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World" was unveiled by Corporate Knights Inc. and Innovest Strategic Value Advisors. The list constitutes 100 companies with the highest Intangible Values Assessment (IVA) scores from Innovest Strategic Value Advisors.

A New Agency to Promote Investment in Renewable Energies Created

A new agency, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to promote investments in renewable energies worldwide has been created.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was founded on January 26, 2009 in Bonn. More than 120 government delegations from across the world attended the conference and a total of 75 nations, a broad cross-section of developing and industrialized countries, signed the Agency’s statute. Many others expressed their strong commitment to IRENA’s goals and their intention to join in the near future...full article
